7:00 pm - Music on Main: Honey Island Swamp Band with Screen Door Porch @ Victor City Park
Honey Island Swamp Band came together when 4 friends were marooned in San Francisco following the levee breaches that devastated New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Formed on the strength of timeless songs from Aaron Wilkinson and Chris MulĂ©. HISB’s “Bayou Americana” sound has been compared to the music of such forefathers as Lowell George, Earl King, Taj Mahal, Jerry Garcia, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Gram Parsons and Jimmy Reed, and the band has been hailed as the next generation’s answer to The Radiators and The Subdudes, two of New Orleans’ legendary roots rock bands.
OffBeat Magazine has honored Honey Island Swamp Band as “Best Emerging Artist” of 2009, as well as “Best Roots Rock Artist” of 2010, and their first full-length album Wishing Well was named as “Best Blues Album” of 2009. The newest offering from HISB – 2010’s Good To You – was named to numerous “Top 10 Albums of 2010” lists, and illuminates the mix of country-inflected rock and New Orleans funky blues that makes Honey Island Swamp Band’s music so familiar and unique at the same time.
