The only even prime number, music often operates in “twos”—violins divided into “first” and “second” parts, wind instruments usually in pairs—and almost all of us are naturally divided into “couples.” Voices in dialogue may well be the soundtrack of life itself. This concert has not just one great pair (a duet by Prokofiev), but a great trio of pairs (a sextet by Brahms) as well.
