Maestro Runnicles returns to the podium for the penultimate week of the season joined by Grammy Award-winning pianist Yefim Bronfman, who makes his festival debut in performances of Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto. “A marvel of digital dexterity, warmly romantic sentiment, and jaw-dropping bravura” says the Chicago Tribune of Mr. Bronfman.
Fans of lush orchestral splendor will relish these performances of Brahms’ Symphony No. 3. Though the piece is not intentionally programmatic, listeners are likely to agree with Clara Schumann, for whom it conjured up images of “a chapel in a wood … streams flowing, and beetles and gnats playing.”
