MAHLER
Symphony No.2 “Resurrection”
Music Director Donald Runnicles welcomes the San Francisco Festival Chorale back to the Grand Teton Music Festival in a unique artistic partnership that has grown since the Chorale’s first appearance at the Festival in 2006.
The weekend performances honor the 100th Anniversary of Mahler’s death with performances of his Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection.” The excruciatingly beautiful work for large orchestra and mixed chorus offers an existential program that explores the question of “Is there life after death?” and ultimately ends with a impassioned hope for everlasting, transcendent renewal. A more fitting tribute to Mahler – and the next 50 years of the Grand Teton Music Festival – one could not want.
